The spirit of "UPWARD – Wong Yuk-Lung" embodies openness and inclusivity, community connection, youthful energy, and optimism and positive energy for the future. Each hooded sculpture gazes up at the Hong Kong skyline in a unique pose, providing unparalleled social media photo opportunities for the public and corporate guests. The exhibition will be open to the public and events can be booked.
Huang Yulong is a highly popular Chinese artist whose works have been widely exhibited overseas, including in Paris. "UPWARD – Huang Yulong" elevates his hip-hop and street culture style to new heights, presented on an unprecedented scale. Presented in collaboration with Great Entertainment Group ("GEG"), the exhibition is held in the heart of Central, Hong Kong's most attractive exhibition space, a unique venue where land and water meet. Huang Yulong has a loyal following and has successfully collaborated with numerous renowned brands. In 2018, he collaborated with superstar Andy Lau on a sculpture titled "Sharing." Additionally, Huang Yulong's sculpture "Starting from the Heart" depicts a hooded figure standing atop a giant hand; this work was exhibited as part of "1/X Andy Lau's Art Space" in the West Kowloon Cultural District in 2023.
Since the early 2000s, Wong Yuk-Lung's work has profoundly documented and interpreted the evolution of Chinese street culture. Through the familiar symbol of the hoodie, he evokes positive reflections on belonging and the complexities of urban life. Furthermore, "UPWARD – Wong Yuk-Lung" also features a selection of sculptures incorporating hoodies and rugby elements, subtly echoing the Hong Kong International Sevens Rugby Tournament held in March. Ora-Ora co-founder and CEO Leung Tsui-Kam-Hei stated, "Wherever Wong Yuk-Lung goes, he brings positive and inspiring energy. He breaks boundaries, champions diversity, and always embraces inclusivity. Now is the perfect time to promote optimism and positive energy, and Hong Kong is the most suitable city for artists. We are delighted to present to this exceptional artist in the best possible location during Art Month."
Michael Denmark, founder and executive chairman of Great Entertainment Group (GEG), has long admired Wong Yuk-Lung's work and was a key figure in facilitating this unique collaboration. He stated, "The Hong Kong Observation Wheel and AIA Vitality Park are located in the heart of Hong Kong, and we strive every day to bring celebration and joy to the city and its communities. Collaborating with Wong Yuk-Lung during Hong Kong's busiest month—with Arts Month, the world-renowned Hong Kong Sevens, and the opening of the new Kai Tak Sports Park stadium—is an opportunity not to be missed."
In addition, starting from February 26, Wong Yuk-lung's important work "Be My Side (L)" has been collected and will be permanently exhibited for the millions of visitors to the Hong Kong Observation Wheel and AIA Vitality Park every year.
